Journal Entry for 3rd meeting 2

If you will have one outstanding virtue, what would you want it to be? Why?

I think it would be thankfulness/gratitude because it became an instinct of me to thank anyone who has done a favor for me. And sometimes I even can't stand myself if I wasn't able to express my gratitude.

Gratitude

It was during our Math001 class when our professor suddenly asked us to prepare a 1 whole sheet of yellow pad paper for we will be having a seatwork. Unfortunately and mindlessly, I had no paper so I had no choice but to ask for my classmate to give me 1 sheet. Then the seat work started, ended and it was already the end of our class. I didn't really knew her name but I eagerly tapped her on the shoulder, I gave her a smile and I said "salamat sa papel ha". I felt quite happy and calm after she looked back and gave me a shy smile.

The lesson I learned at the very instant is to make sure that I have yellow pad paper with me next time and that expressing your gratitude even with the simplest of notions can be meaningful to you and the one who you are thanking.

Accountability

It was a sunday and like in any other families, our sundays are quite busy. Unfortunately almost everyone left for they have places to be and so I got no choice but to finish all the chores that were left behind. I felt satisfied after finishing all the chores.

That experienced made me appreciate accountability as a very important value.

Personal Values Checklist

Jose Martin Carlo Q. Chavez III

DAD-1

The personal values that I consider as very essential are the following:

1.Truth
2.Wisdom
3.Family
4.Gratitude
5.Freedom
6.Equality
7.Friendship
8.Accountability
9.Communication
10.Simplicity

I chose the values listed above based on how I view or know myself in this phase or chapter of my life as a college student. The list above is not really in descending order for I think, every value that I chose is important to keep or to practice in my day to day experiences and activities.

journal entry for 2nd meeting

1. How was your first week of stay at MCL?

My first week was good. It was very exciting and a little bit nostalgic since I'm a transferee student and this is not my first time being a 1st yr. college student.

2. Describe your professors. What are traits do you find positive in each one?

My professors are very patient and understanding when it comes to handling and communicating with the students. They are very good in the courses/subjects they teach and they entertain every question that I and any other student have raised.

3. Describe your blockmates/section. What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of your section?

I'm not really in the block section of my program and so I have different classmates in every subject I attend. But I can say that as 1st year students, they are very eager to learn and are very attentive to instructions.

4. How do you find your courses? Which ones do you think are easy and which ones do you think are a little bit challenging? Why?

I have a course on freehand drawing which is very exciting for me, because It falls under my forte/interests. Ofcourse Math11 gives me the challenge because I'm not really good in math.

5. Do you have any adjustment you feel you are going through or must go through? What are they? Cite examples in terms in your academics, emotions, and social environment.

I'm 20 yrs. old and I find it a little bit hard to mingle with my classmates because they are a little younger than me. But then I don't really see that as a problem or anything that can cause negative emotions on my part because, hopefully, in time, I'll be able to fit in with my classmates.

journal entry for 1st meeting

1. In the first few days you've spent in MCL, how would you compare your highschool life to what you envisioned college life to be?

My experiences in highschool are very much different to the few significant things I experienced at MCL. Before, I was very dependent on my parents when it comes to matters that involved school. But now (in College) I experienced more independence in decision-making, I learned to talk to people with more confidence and I am beginning to feel more comfortable being surrounded by the people at MCL. Some experiences and scenarios may have been a little different from how I envisioned College when I was in highschool but they don't turn to disappointments because every new thing I experience is another chance to grow as a college student.

2. What is the importance of Values Education?

Values Education gives the opportunity to an individual to grow as a well-grounded, refined and respective member of his/her community.

journal entry no.1

1. How does Values Education work to your advantage?

Values Education gives me the confidence to interact with the people inside and outside of the school. It helps me to be more attentive and appreciative of the things that I learn and experience everday.

2. After you have processed your first few experiences at MCL, in what way this will help you achieve successful adjustment in college?

Those experiences will help me in identifying the things that I should and should not do, the things that I need and the steps I must take to make myself more comfortable with the people around me during my stay in MCL.
